Why not just add only the Anime as Groups, and what class they are as a Rank?

Example:
Say if Bleach or Naruto was a group, add all members to it, so they can all be one color, and be in the same group as their comrades. Then if they were a Captain, Lieutenant, Chunin, or Jonin, then add that to the Ranks instead...

No. The Reason why we do not add the anime as a group is because we need people to know who is what. Ex:

Yes you are from naruto but whats your rank? the groups help differentiate the academy students from the kages. Otherwise anyone can assume there rank and we would have to take there word for it... you may ask next, "well then why not just check there profiles" . Profiles are allowed to be changed once every month in which they get re-approved, if we let people change it whenever it will become a hassle. So if we do not make these groups to tell them apart then we will have to put it as custom ranks(or titles under the name), but i have already decided to use that section to keep track of winning streaks and award people special ranks in which they can do special stuff.
